New Year is off to a great start. Yet another feast yesterday... how I managed to get it all down, I will never know. Gift of stomachs is real. I TESTIFY. They have a fun tradition here to eat 12 grapes the last 12 seconds of the year. I was laughing so hard I couldn't chew and so i just had a mouth full grapes.
I have such a deep sincere gratitude and testimony for the word of wisdom. We went up to Monsujit (a castel here in barc for the sunrise) and the metros reeeeked of weed and tabacco, with alcohol stains still painting the ground. Drunk partiers just leaving the club. Throw up. Why people ever do that or find any pleasure in that I will never understand. I just know that Satan is powerful and that is exactly why I'm here on the front lines to save people from his misery and endless woe.
AND ONE SOUL WAS SAVED THIS WEEKEND!!! Gustavo's baptism was beautiful, and so powerful! As Enrique (a member) declared that he baptized Gustavo by the authority given him by Jesus Christ, my heart was filled with the sweetest joy and the spirit filled my body. As Gustavo was immersed in the water, I knew, once again, exactly why I am here. It confirmed deep down that it is all true. That the power to return to live with Him as FAMILIES was restored! And that it is only through the power of Jesus Christ and His atonement that we can change today, and that we can return to Him! That LIVES CHANGE! And that the gospel is for everyone!! His testimony was just that he was so happy and ended with an amen and a thumbs up.
Gustavo is a miracle of technology. We found him by a point on our maps that the Elders passed to us when we opened the area. We set so many citas, but before WhatsApp, he fired on every one, but once we got our phones and WhatsApp, we had daily, effective communication and he rapidly and enthusiastically progressed.
For Christmas we gave him a gospel principles book, and he loved it! All week he has literally feasted so deeply upon the words of Christ! He even studied the priesthood. He is exuberantly happy. ALWAYS! He has had some serious trials, but he has taken it with gratitude for the lessons learn and with joy and hope for the future. He is very excited about sharing the gospel with everyone, and doing family history work. He was confirmed and received the priesthood on Sunday. So much JOY!!
We were able to sing Come Thou Fount in Spanish accompanied by yours truly and my classical guitar that I love. I am so grateful for all the talents that God has given me and for the power of music to invite the spirit. And everyone loved the brownies we made.
Edgar is still working on the word of wisdom, but he has incredible faith and is so much happier now. He is in a housing crisis (like so many here) right now, but he will be baptized here very very soon!
I love being a missionary! This last year has taught me so incredibly much and I can see how God is shaping and molding me. I love the Gospel and I hope you all take time to prayerfully see what the Lord has instore for you in 2018. One thing the mission, and my life has taught me is the power of goal setting.
I love you all and am eternally grateful for your support and prayers!
